YouTube Tutorial Video
Introduction/Objective: The goal of our project was to create an informational video that lasts at least 30 seconds and can be used on YouTube or other online platforms. Together with my partner, Denver Belanger, we focused on the theme "How to use the pen tool" for graphic design beginners. During the storyboard creation, Denver's idea of embodying curves using the pen tool inspired us. We decided to visualize these curves in a prop, specifically a paddle. This allowed for a more dynamic and engaging narrative, while also incorporating an interesting element related to boating. Strategy/Methodology: We worked together to develop a rough storyboard, where we mapped out and infused our creative ideas. To bring these concepts to life, we carefully considered solutions for video recording and animation editing. Denver crafted the script, outlining vocal narrations, subjects' positions and actions, and specifics of animated transitions between scenes. At the same time, I translated the rough storyboard into a detailed storyboard, outlining key points, and designing graphic assets and layouts. Solution/Contribution: We used a green screen backdrop and a green sheet during video recording and final editing stages to facilitate post-production visual effects. This allowed us to seamlessly integrate subjects and props into the video by digitally removing the green background. To convey a visual story accompanied by animated infographics covering the informative subject, we created illustrations and animations depicting the history of the pen tool and three methods of constructing the paddle shape using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe After Effects. Results/Impact: The result was a compelling and informative video that effectively conveyed the methods of using the pen tool in graphic design.
